The plans you get are actually two separate plans, as two sections are to be built: the upper case and the lower pedestal desk. (The plans are available for purchase separately, but here you buy them together.) The two separate projects are then joined with pegs, which allow for easier building and moving.

There are two options in the plan for the tambour on the upper section; as pictured here, the 1/4 circle curve is used (on the left), but you also get an alternate full size pattern for an "S" curve (photo on right). Several distinguished pigeon holes and drawers provide storage under the tambour.

The lower portion, a classic double pedestal desk office desk, has seven drawers two of which are doubles. It is a most useful desk even without the tambour top and it can be built separately. The desk is 52" wide, 30" deep, 30" tall. Solid wood furniture such as this will last for ages.

This is a blueprint style plan which is heralded by beginners and experts alike as being a pleasure to work from because all parts are printed in full size -- all joinery is shown in actual size, curved workpieces are all in full size, therefore you can measure and trace straight from the drawing if necessary. A bill of materials doubles as an exact cutting list, there is a detailed exploded diagram, and all hardware requirements are provided. The exploded diagram with clearly labelled parts is so detailed that project specific assembly instructions are not provided as it is inherently understood. A special booklet entitled Guide to Building Wood Furniture is included with each Furniture Designs, Inc. plan and it includes tips explaining the "component theory" of woodworking.
