Here is a plan for a train inspired by the grand locomotives of the 1870's, shortly after the east met the west at Promontory, Utah. Four hardwoods are suggested to produce the multi-colored effect, but stains can accomplish this. Tiny brass brads ring the front of the boiler for rivet accent. The detailed step by step text takes you from the engine and tender car to the passenger car and display base, which should be adorned with real rocks. A real showpiece.
General guidelines are listed for adding a motor drive to turn the four large engine wheels in place. Add lights in the four walkway lamps, in the coach car, and in the engine cab. Small colored LEDs can be placed in the signal. An electronic module can be added to create authentic train sounds. Full size patterns are provided for this amazing project. Some lathe work is required.
48" long, 10" high. Engine is 17" long, 6-1/2" high.
