I was disappointed to discover that the plans don't include a list of what to buy. The "bill of materials" lists finished sizes, so you'll have to calculate how much stock to buy. Also, the plans call for ripping 50 line feet of 1/4-inch by 1 1/2-inch cedar from 2x4s; ripping 1/4-inch strips from 2x4s may be more challenge than you expected, if you can find cedar 2x4s in the first place. (I plan to use closet-lining stock instead, which is already 1/4-inch and will only need to be ripped to width.) Also, the plans don't include specifications for some required hardware, so you'll have to order it from the company listed on the plans.
My calculations for what you'll need, not including the base (which I'm not building because it's going to sit on a flat rock instead): one 4x8 sheet of 1/2-inch exterior plywood; two standard 6-foot cedar pickets; optionally 5 1/2 line feet of beveled cedar siding or shingles; whatever you'll rip the strips mentioned above from; and the hardware listed on the plans. Be sure to figure out for yourself how much treated 2x4 and 2x10 stock you'll need for the base.Rating: [2 of 5 Stars!]
